I've been working alongside an independent artist and web builder out of Lebanon, Tennessee for a while now. Smart guy. Talented. Builds everything himself — the songs, the recordings, the mixes, the website, the promotions. No committee. No label. No budget. Just conviction.
And I watched him run into the same wall every independent creator runs into — over and over and over.
There's a certain short video platform — you know the one, foreign owned, addictive by design — that killed a giveaway campaign through coordinated mass reporting. Gone. No appeal. No explanation. Just gone.
There's a certain social media giant — the one with the blue thumbs up — that shows your post to roughly 2% of the people who already chose to follow you. Unless, of course, you'd like to pay them to reach the other 98%.
There's a certain video platform — the one named after a river's worth of content — that punished a batch upload with algorithmic suppression, watched session duration drop, saw followers decline during an active campaign, then hid behind an ID verification wall and locked out advanced features entirely.
There's a streaming world that pays a fraction of a penny per play while the people running it collect nine figures. A fraction of a penny. For something that took weeks to create.
But here's what they didn't count on. The guy I work with is savvy. Patient. Artistry-first and budget-disciplined. He didn't pay to play. He didn't buy followers. He didn't surrender his platform to someone else's algorithm.
